Mathematical Sciences Semesters in Guanajuato (MSSG) is an international study abroad program open to undergraduate students majoring in Mathematics or related fields who want to enhance their skills in areas such as mathematical modeling, data analysis and computer science.

The program was developed based on CIMAT's long-standing tradition in interdisciplinary work involving Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science for research pursuits, teaching, and collaborations with government and industry. All activities are conducted in English in small groups, providing students with opportunities to become involved with ongoing applications, research projects and undertakings, and to interact with undergraduate and graduate students from diverse fields.

All this while the participants explore the vast culture of Mexico in a fascinating city thanks to its mixture of centuries-old local traditions and events with international projection, which make Guanajuato an oasis for interculturality. 

We offer two modalities of study throughout the year: Semester-Based Programs and Short Courses. Apart of taking courses, one can participate as well in Independent Research Projects.

Renewed Semester Based Programs

From 2026 on, in each semester program students will be able to take courses from the complete course catalogue; it will no longer be the case that the Spring Semester focuses only on Data Science and the Fall Semester only on Mathematical Modeling. Greater emphasis will also be placed on transversal courses.

The usual study load includes two courses, an independent research project, and a Spanish course. At the start of each semester, students can participate in a short, intensive coding workshop.

Short Courses

A full-day, three-week program offered in January and during the summer, combining academic activities with cultural experiences related to Mexico, Guanajuato, and the Spanish language.
